  • what purposes might be served by classifying these items according to the characteristics?

  • an instructional approach that uses real life ill-structured problems as the impetus for learning (Boud & Feletti, 1997)
  • ill-structured problems and strive to find meaningful solutions (Rhem, 1998)
  • student start a learning process with a problem that related to everyday life and there is more than one solution for the problem.
CHARACTERISTICS OF PBL
  • ill-structured, complex problems provide the focal points and stimuli for the course, curriculum and / or program
  • learning is student centered. Student is responsible and plan their own learning of content (self-directed)
  • faculty act as a coach / facilitator
  • students work in small groups to solve / provide multiple solutions to problem
  • learner assessment is anhanced by self and peer assessment
